Fire Prevention Plan
Fire Prevention Plan
The Fire Prevention Plan establishes procedures to reduce the risk of fire and protect workers, property, and operations. Following OSHA’s Fire Prevention Plan requirements (29 CFR 1910.39), this program ensures employees know how to recognize fire hazards, maintain safe work practices, and respond appropriately in case of an emergency.
A strong fire prevention plan includes:
-
Hazard Identification: Identifying flammable materials, ignition sources, and processes that present fire risks.
-
Safe Handling & Storage: Properly labeling, storing, and disposing of combustible and flammable substances.
-
Equipment Maintenance: Keeping machinery, electrical systems, and heating equipment in good condition to reduce fire hazards.
-
Employee Training: Teaching workers about fire hazards in their work area, safe practices to prevent ignition, and the location of extinguishers and exits.
-
Emergency Response: Outlining evacuation procedures, alarm systems, and responsibilities for reporting or responding to fire hazards.
By following the Fire Prevention Plan, organizations not only meet OSHA standards but also create safer workplaces where employees are prepared and hazards are proactively controlled.
